Reminder of John Muir's Terracycle Program
John Muir collects foil energy bar wrappers, dairy containers (yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream, cream cheese and the foil/plastic liners), hummus containers, any type of personal care product container (shampoo bottles, lotion, make-up containers, sunscreen, toothpaste tubes, old toothbrushes, mouthwash bottles, deodorant bottles, etc.), Brita water filers, plastic cereal bags, cheese packaging, plastic diaper coverings and plastic from baby wipe containers.
Even though Berkeley now accepts dairy containers in your recycle bins, we still want your dairy containers, as proceeds from our Terracycle program provide scholarships for after school enrichment programs. The recent box of trash that was sent to Terracycle, (energy bar wrappers) provided enough money to provide two hours of afterschool enrichment classes to a scholarship recipient. Please no clam shells from berry containers or coffee cups.
Special thanks to Sylvia Del Toro (mom of Wyatt and Matthew), who has been collecting Terracycle items during lunch. Your child’s Lunchable packaging, energy bar wrappers, dairy containers and cheese packaging are some of the items Sylvia has been diverting from the landfill in recent weeks. Thanks Sylvia! Contact Sara Kashima (email@example.com) if you’d like to help with this program, or if you have any questions about Terracycle.
