Volunteers Needed for May Fair!

May Fair is a marquee event at John Muir School -- featuring carnival games, a raffle with fabulous prizes, fresh healthy food, a petting zoo, a bounce house, crafts, a cake walk, live music and more. But we need lots of volunteers to make this event a great success. Can you spare 1-2 hours to help us set up, run a booth, serve food or clean-up? This year, we’re using VolunteerSpot, a time-saving online coordination tool. To sign up to volunteer at May Fair, go to: http://www.volunteerspot.com/login/entry/6423456348443020121 and complete the simple online form. If you have a question, please contact Susan Weeks (Alex's mom, 2nd grade) at 510-684-0463 or susan.weeks@comcast.net.

Seeking Summer Caretakers for John Muir Garden

Summer is a time of abundance, and we are looking for families to care for the garden and chickens for a week at a time. This volunteer job involves coming to school 3-4 times during your week, watering plants, feeding and watering chickens, collecting eggs, and harvesting food to take home. First come first served—available slots tend to fill up quickly! If you’re interested, please contact Ms. Rachel by phone or email: (510) 439-6227 or rachelbayharris@gmail.com.

May Fair Raffle Prizes Still Needed

Do you own a restaurant or business, and can offer a gift certificate as a raffle prize? Are you a contractor or handyman, and can offer a service? An artist with a special work of art to share? A knitter or potter with a beautiful creation to donate? To donate goods or services to be used as raffle prizes, or if you can volunteer to deliver letters requesting donations from local businesses, please contact Mandy Ladin (mandy@ladin.com or 883-1606) or Susan Weeks (susan.weeks@comcast.net or 684-0463).

Silent Auction Events or Items Still Needed

We are looking for special events and items that John Muir teachers or parents/guardians can offer to members of the John Muir community. Can you cook a special dinner for 4 or 6? Organize a fun outing or activity for a group of kids? Sew or knit or create a ceramic item to order? Or, do you have another idea of something special you can donate? Contact Barbara Steuart (steuart.barbara@gmail.com or 843-8262).

Used Toys Needed for May Fair Prizes

Once again this year, May Fair not only means spring… it means spring cleaning! Clear out those toys and games your kids don’t play with anymore and contribute them to the May Fair fun. We are collecting used toys and games (only good condition items, please!) to use as prizes for kids’ games of skill and chance. There is a box in the school office for donations.
