Welcome to Berkeley's John Muir Elementary School

Welcome to John Muir School, smallest of the eleven elementary schools in the Berkeley Unified School District. Our school is the recipient of multiple grants and awards including the National Blue Ribbon Award for 2005. As you walk the halls, examine student work posted everywhere, notice how students treat each other, and visit classrooms, you will see the results of a faculty, parent community, and support staff who are dedicated, focused and skilled.

Diversity is among our core strengths. The school serves 245 students, Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. Our parent community includes parents who speak more than 12 languages. We support and invite students from every background and offer a learning program that uses effective teaching to promote high achievement. Since our school hosts one of the region's premiere programs for the deaf and the hard of hearing, all students here are exposed to sign language. A combination of hard work and focused effort has produced a remarkable story of sustained success.
